Cavan FC 1 – 0 Olympiakos

Match Report:  OSL- Men’s Central Region East First Game

Kick off was at 9 pm at L’amoreaux stadium in Scarborough.  Light rain on turf field, field was in very good condition. Cavan boys dominated game but only managed to score one goal from numerous chances. Score line should have been 3 if not 4 nothing. We were finally able to put one behind the opponent’s keeper at the 80th minute even though we played a man short from the 20th minute mark of the first half due to a red card given to George Gill on a very questionable call from the game official. Goal was scored by team captain Josh Penello assisted by Seth Mahabir. Defensive unit consisting of Stefano Pella, Rory Morley, Mitch Cummings, Sean Mayes played with such discipline it appeared as if they have played as a unit for years holding the opposition to 2 shots on net that keeper Jared Foxon handled with confidence, resulting in a clean sheet for his first OSL game. Midfield consisting of Josh Braga (Nacho), Joyal Gurung and Josh Penello took control of the middle of the field and set the tempo of the game. Attacking midfield players Michael Penello, Seth Mahiber posed an attacking threat whenever they entered the opponent’s final third. Striker Gord McLaughlin positioned himself in key scoring areas but was unable to beat the opponent’s keeper who made several key saves. Substitute Silent Nyamushanya made a positive impact as a Striker and created several scoring chances. Key contributions from substitutes Steve Moffet, Daniel Clark-Collins, Mohammad Burhani, Lucus Clarke and Salih Miftari helped in making Cavan’s first OSL game a successful outing.
