Club Information: Background
All Directors of MLCFC are volunteers.
Maple Leaf Soccer Club (MLSC) was founded in the mid 1980's. Serving
the communities of Millbrook, Cavan, South Monaghan, and surrounding areas.
Many children have enjoyed the wonderful game of soccer at Maple
Leaf Park.
Due to the rise in popularity of the wonderful game of soccer our
little club has grown from 400 registrants in 2007 to over 1,000 in 2011.
Below is a brief overview of some of the changes we've gone through in
the past years...
2007
In the summer of 2007 two things happened almost simultaneously - #1.
the executive members of the club were wondering how to provide a higher
level
of play for several local players, #2. the club was approached by Matt
Vaughan and Alex Penello about starting a rep program thus, in the fall
of 2007, the Cavan FC competitive (rep) program was introduced for players
who wanted to take
their soccer game to the next level. The first competitive team was a
1998 Boy's team coached by Matt Vaughan and Alex Penello. Founding executive
members of the rep program were Dave Neilson (President), Randy AuCoin
(Treasurer), Tammy AuCoin (Registrar/Administrator) and Brooke Taylor
(Equipment Manager).
2008
The club introduced a mini-soccer program whereby children under the
age of 4 could enjoy the great game of soccer – with over 80 children
enrolled in the program it has been a great success!
2009
The Board of Directors grew from four members to ten.
The Mixed Adult 30+ league was started - operating
on Friday nights with the focus on fun and fitness. The mixed adult league
has grown
from 4 teams in 2009 to
8 teams in the 2011 season.
2010
Cavan FC became affiliated with the Toronto FC Academy program – a
big feat for a small club. The Cavan FC program has 10 competitive teams for
the 2011 playing season and has a reputation for ‘putting kids first’ and
listening to it's membership.
Annual year-end club and coaching evaluations
were introduced.
2011
Maple Leaf Soccer Club officially changed it's name to Maple
Leaf - Cavan FC (MLCFC) and became a registered non-profit corporation.
MLCFC also reorganized its
Board of Directors with a clear division between Recreational (house
league) and Competitive (Rep). Board positions grew from 10 to 20.
Online player registration for the recreational
division was introduced. Players can register online and pay via Paypal
or credit card.
Maple Leaf - Cavan FC became the first ECOSA club to achieve an OSA
Club Excellence Award by receiving the Bronze level.
Introduced the club's first Ladies Only 30 + soccer league with 20
ladies registered for drop-in, pick-up soccer games on Sunday nights.
Great exercise and a wonderfully fun time!
First ALL Star training program ran after full season completed. Over 80
players participated in the additional weekly training sessions.
Club held
it's first licensed CFC banquet extravaganza with a live band barn dance,
roast beef dinner,
lots of games
and activities for children and adults.
November 2011 MLCFC is proud to announce the rollout of our Club Academy
Program (CAP). Director of Academy Alex Penello will be coordinating
the 14 week program which will be available to all CFC players.
